I am looking forward to our May 1st meeting in Alexandria. We will be
gathering in the Nelson Wellness Center meeting room located in the Nelson
Gables Assisted Living/Knute Nelson Nursing Home in Alexandria. I am asking
Susan Scarborough to send us all the address for that facility, and also
directions, by April 15. There will be a small charge for our noon meal.
I know some of you will not be able to attend this meeting, but I wanted
everyone to have a copy of the anticipated agenda. If you are undecided about
attending, I hope you will consider making the drive. This will be an
important meeting. If you cannot come, I would encourage you to participate
by emailing me your thoughts/suggestions re the issues listed below. I will
share them with those attending the meeting.
To help us prepare for the meeting, I would like to suggest that EVERYONE,
regardless of whether or not you can come to the meeting, send me the
information listed below. I will put it all together in a spreadsheet so that
we have a better idea of who we are and what we do. I hope to send the
summary out to everyone prior to the May 1st meeting; it should provide
helpful background. Please send me the following by April 15:
1) Name of your group
2) Director(s) of the group
3) Location
4) Name of sponsoring institution (if applicable)
5) Number of programs per year (estimate)
6) Major sources of funding
7) Annual budget
8) Organizational status (501©(3) or other?)
9) Number of members (if applicable)
10) Number of persons attending your programs in 2007 (estimate)
11) Mission statement or other “purpose statement”
12) Any community or volunteer activities in which your members participate
representing your lifelong learning group
The agenda is listed below. Let me know if you would like to suggest any
changes to the agenda.
9:30 – 10:00 - registration and networking
10:00 -10:45 – introductions; announcements; and review of information
gathered from all groups
10:45 – 11:15 – discussion of blog (how to use the technology; ideas for
using the blog effectively as a communication tool)
11:15 – 11:45 – discuss and select name for group
11:4 5 - 12:45 - lunch
12:45 – 1:30 – discuss and draft mission statement
1:30 – 2:00 - objectives/proposed activities (work plan) for next 12 months
I am attaching two separate documents: 1) a list of the names we considered at
our last meeting in St. Cloud; 2) the draft of the mission statement which I
sent out a couple of months ago as part of the “vision statement”. Please
review these prior to the meeting. If you have any new suggestions for a
name, send them to me by April 15. If you have suggestions regarding the
mission statement, bring those with you to the May 1st meeting. At the
meeting we will work in small groups on the mission statement, and your
contributions are encouraged.
One final thing: please confirm whether or not you can attend this meeting.
If others will accompany you, send me their names so we have an accurate count
for lunch and a nametag for everyone.
